Happy Tuesday Everyone!
March always reminds me that spring is on its way. As we move toward longer sunny days, I thought I would introduce my Sunbathing Southern Mountain Viscacha. I first discovered Viscachas while researching my Maned Wolf (pictures of 2020 Maned Wolf below) I knew from the moment I saw their chill sunbathing face, I needed to create a Mountain Viscacha design. This bunny looking animal is in the family Chinchillidae with its only living family member being the Chinchilla. I hope you enjoy and close up pictures and fun facts next week!

True wolves live in packs but the Maned Wolf is a lone wolf. Well, it’s not really a true wolf since it has its own genus, Chrysocyon. They do pair up in monogamous relationships during breeding season and while raising their young to protect their territory. They are omnivores: half of their diet includes fruits and veggies including bananas, apples, avocados, and lobeira fruit , aka fruit of the wolf, and the other half includes small rodents, insects, and birds. A Lobeira fruit grows on a tree and when immature looks a little like a green tomato with inner white flesh and brown/black seeds. If you watched or played Pokemon Gold/Silver/Crystal/HeartGold/SoulSilver, then they look like green apricorns from the Johto region used to make Friend Pokeballs. This unripened fruit is poisonous to humans so it’s not something you would give to your human friends. When ripe, it has a milky yellow inner flesh and is safe for human consumption. Locals make jams and preserves with them.

Maned Wolf
Lobeira Fruit
This week’s animal has the red fur and head first jump of a red fox, the long legs and gallop of a deer, and the name Maned Wolf!
I was introduced to the Maned Wolf by a Facebook post trying to figure out what this beautiful yet Frankensteined combination of creatures was. I'm here to tell you that the Maned Wolf’s closest living relative is the bush dog. A little dog with brown fur, a twinkie-shaped body, short legs, and a head that looks like an upset brown bear. With that mystery solved, I hope you enjoy the rest of your week! |

I'm just a doodling artist. My current style started in a lecture class at MCLA where I began doodling in my notebooks. Now I've started a new series focusing on animals. Archives
